Treatment Team Sessions

These sessions can be therapeutic for all clients seeing multiple providers. I highly recommend a treatment team approach to recovery from an eating disorder.

What is a treatment team approach?

This typically includes several members:

*The client (often experiencing a high level of distress, impairment to daily living, or an eating disorder/disordered eating) and/or their loved ones

*An individual therapist, and at times a family therapist

*A medical doctor (a possible psychiatrist)

*A registered dietitian (who shares the same recovery approach as the therapist)

From an outpatient setting, it is important to try and build the team based on the clients concerns and needs.

What is the role of the therapist?

The role is to help facilitate a cohesive relationship between these individuals and advocate for the client's needs.

What do we do?

This time is spent reviewing progress, goals for recovery, and answering in-depth questions about client's concerns with multiple providers available at one time.

I know recovery can be very time consuming so a joint session can alleviate some of that!

This can also be helpful for client's who are working closely with medical providers or a separate therapist (such as a different family therapist). I would collaborate in the same manner to ensure cohesivity for the client.

Frequency

Sessions can occur weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the client's and/or families' needs and the involved professional(s) recommendation(s).
