Family Counseling &
Education

Working with families/loved ones can be such a big part of of the therapeutic journey! In these sessions, my goals will be to help the client and family unit navigate through a current struggle that the client is facing.

What will this include?

*Communication skills

*Emotional guidance and regulation skills

*Help with navigating before, during, and after meal times

*Learning about what eating disorders or trauma(s) entail

*Processing past hurts

*Psychoeducation about recovery and family systems

I will often see an individual client and bring in their families for joint session work. Every person's voice is heard in this session and my role is to provide a neutral space for some hands on processing and learning.

Frequency

Sessions can occur weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the families needs. If possible, I recommend loved ones attend a support group or psychoeducation session at least once a month or every 6 weeks. Over the course of treatment, this can increase or decrease in frequency.  I highly recommend psychoeducation sessions for guardians at the beginning of eating disorder recovery as establishing a routine of check-ins and skill building is critical for treatment success rates!
